Getting coffee Sunday evening 8/25/02.

While most of my first day was spent in Fairfax County (August 25 and 26 trip report) I eventually made it to Prince George's County. In the area commonly referred to as Manassas I decided to stay overnight.

Hotel Accommodations

Days Inn - Manassas (official site)

10653 Balls Ford Road

Manassas, VA 20109

- I called for rates here and was told $69. I asked if there was a rock bottom rate. I was told not through "me". I called the Days Inn Reservations. I was told $69 too. After asking for the Rock Bottom Rate I was eventually told the lowest rate available of $51.75. I saved $17.25 by asking the right questions and searching for the lowest price. Fortunately I knew what rates to expect by pricing rooms prior to my departure. What dumb luck.

- This hotel offers a very nice room with a refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, clock radio and full cable TV, including news channel 8.

- They have an outdoor pool. The also offer a deluxe continental breakfast. While the coffee was very weak on Monday morning, the juice, cereal and English muffin were great. Coffee was great Sunday evening.

Restaurants

Dinner was purchased as take-out from the Wok and Roll Chinese restaurant. I arrived too late to eat inside so I ordered take-out and went back to the hotel to eat with soda purchased at the 7-11 with the Citgo station located next to the regular 7-11 store.

Activities

-- Touring the Manassas Battlefield park and visitor's center. Watching the movie and viewing the exhibits. Very reasonable priced. $3.00 for the park pass and $3.00 for the movie.

-- Watching movies in the hotel room. On a channel called "extremely B movies" or some such title I saw a Robby Benson, Samantha Eggar and Stacey Keach TV movie, All the Kind Strangers (1974) (imdb). Robby's brothers and sisters keep visitors hostage to fill in for their dead parents. While the ending sucked (wrapped up too quick, too neatly and not believable) the rest of the movie was very good.

Also saw Jumanji (imdb) on TBS.
