Here is information on my 2001 June 30 to July 1 visit to Herndon, Virginia and the surrounding Northern Virginia sections of Fairfax County and Loudon County . During this visit I stayed at the Marriott Suites Washington Dulles, 13101 Worldgate Drive in Herndon, Virginia. The Dulles Suites Marriott is attached to the Worldgate Centre, home to many fine shops, restaurants and a cinema.

2001 June 30

Just arrived on location about one hour ago and it is just like I remembered it.
Its been years since I stayed in this hotel. I walked through on a recent visit to the Worldgate Center, but it is not the same as being a guest and having a room here and. Great room with a great view. The amenities have increased. Premium toiletries. Premium coffee. High speed internet access (for a fee). Looking forward to enjoying some fine food, a fine movie (I hope), some premium alcoholic beverages and a premium cigar.

They hit you for $1.00 per local call, regardless of duration! (Bring your cell phone.)
Free 20 minute toll free call (10 cents over the first 20 minutes.)
Five local calls at $1.00 each sure beats a $10 Internet
connection at about 65 kb.

They also hit you for a $3.00 energy surcharge during the summer of 2001. I say pay the surcharge, as if you have a choice, and grab at least $5.00 worth of towels for your linen closet. (As of 1-5-02 they are still charging an extra $3.00.) What a scam! If they wanted to make an extra $3.00 all they have to do is raise the rate $3.00. But a $59.00 rate plus $3.00 must look better to traveler than a $62.00 rate. In addition this may make a difference for accounting and tax purposes. I'm sure they have an account for towel and supply shrinkage. While I am not serious about stealing towels I am serious about my anger towards the "energy surcharge".
