Charlottesville, Virginia

Historic Charlottesville, Virginia is a city in the central part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Located in Albemarle County off of I-64 about 70 miles east of Richmond and 39 miles west of Staunton. It is the home of the University of Virginia which was founded by Thomas Jefferson.

Among the many historic sites nearby are Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello (official site). The home of James Monroe, Ash Lawn and Highland.

In Virginia certain cities are completely independent of any counties. The city exercises the same control over itself that counties exercise over most towns and localities. Charlottesville City is one of them. Albemarle County completely surrounds Charlottesville.

There are many hotel located throughout Charlottesville. This includes the Red Roof Inn on Main Street. This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the University of Virginia.

Orbit bar and billiards. Had a good set of drinks and a sandwich here the evening of April 15 to the early morning of April 16.
