Historic Charlottesville, Virginia is a city in the
central part of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Located in Albemarle
County off of I-64 about 70 miles east of
Richmond and 39 miles west of Staunton. It is the home of the
University of Virginia which was founded by Thomas Jefferson.
Among the many historic sites nearby are Thomas Jefferson's home at
Monticello (official
site). The home of James Monroe, Ash Lawn and Highland.
In
Virginia certain cities are completely independent of any counties. The
city exercises the same control over itself that counties exercise over
most towns and localities. Charlottesville City is one of them.
Albemarle County completely surrounds Charlottesville.
There are many hotel located throughout Charlottesville.

located within walking distance to the University of Virginia.
