| My first visit to The Outer Banks of North Carolina was the July 4th weekend, 2003. I arrived on Sunday July 6 and stayed 2 days and 1 night. I entered the island in Kitty Hawk from highway 158 and made it as far south a Kill Devil Hills. That covers a tiny fraction of the area of the Outer Banks. However in Kill Devil Hills is a very significant area in the history of man. In Kill Devil Hills is where the Wright brothers made the first powered flight of an airplane on December 17, 1903. This is commemorated at The Wright Brothers national memorial. | |
