New Hampshire

Gorham, Shelburne, Berlin

2002 September 1 to 2

Visited the Gorham, Berlin, Shelburne area of New Hampshire this weekend. This was my second visit to the area. I am not sure of my first visit here, maybe 1999. I'll need to search my receipts for the exact dates.

Established and operated by

the Labnon family since 1956

This is the eastern most building on the property attached to the main building with the front desk, bar and restaurant. I am facing north. My room, 178, is the first floor 2nd door from right.

On my 1999 stay I was on the other side, in a non-smoking room.

This trip I stayed again at the very nice Town and Country Motor Inn in Shelburne, NH. Seconds from the town of Gorham, NH. The rooms have been completely renovated and were spotless. Full cable TV, sofa, coffee table, desk, great shower and comfortable bed. The hotel has an indoor pool, restaurant and bar. They offer great rates for a great stay.

Route  2

Shelburne, NH 03581

(Seconds east of the intersection

of 15 and 2 Gorham, NH)

Stayed in room 178

The door seen here opens to an interior corridor. Behind the bed is the bathroom. Another door to the outside and parking  is behind me.

This trip I was able to drive the Mt. Washington Auto Road. Now I remember. My last trip was in October when a storm closed the auto road my last day in NH. That made for a great ride around the south end of the Presidential Range heading up to the ski resort. I'll save that report for another story.

"Don't even get out of the car", said the nice guard when I approached the auto road toll both during my 1999 trip.

This time the employees were great getting cars through rather quickly with a good attitude. The toll is $16 for a car with one person, the driver. You get a CD which narrates your trip up and down the 8 mile road (Hey, Slim Shady!), with interesting history of the road. You also get the 'This car climbed Mt. Washington' bumper sticker.

As you drive up the view gets better and better. You drive in low gear at about 20 m.p.h. Take it easy to prevent wear and tear on the car. Stop frequently to enjoy the view and take pictures.
