problem exist with the 'Lost in Translation'
time line. As seen in the final cut of the movie. About day 2 -- Charlotte, in a call to Lauren, questions her marriage to John. She said she tried Ikebana and that she doesn't know who she married. After that call she puts on make up and is wearing a nice sweater. John is seen packing his camera. About Day 3 -- Charlotte is seen performing Ikebana and acts like it is her first time. (This is after she told Lauren that she tried Ikebana). About Day 4 -- John is seen leaving on his trip to Fukazawa. He is holding his camera case, gives champagne to Charlotte and kisses her goodbye. (Both John and Charlotte are wearing the exact same clothes they wore two days earlier and Charlotte is wearing her make-up the same as two days earlier). The correct sequence is for Charlotte to question her marriage to John the day he leaves for Fukazawa. This makes the most sense. She is left alone for a few days while he is out working. She sees him interacting with Kelly and trying new hair products.

Cut -- Final cut or not, the timeline in Lost in Translation needs to
be corrected. This is a work in progress too. The detailed times (i.e. 9:14
a.m.) are all estimates. This is done to try and clear the time line and
sequence. Sequence of events will be clearer when clothes are matched up
from one scene to next. All day references, i.e. Day 2 and Day 3, are
relative to Bob's arrival in Tokyo which is considered Day 1. Day 1 -- 1:20 p.m. - Charlotte, perhaps jet lagged, is seen resting on the bed in her panties. This is the opening shot of the movie, the title shot. Day 2 -- 4:33 a.m. - Charlotte can't sleep. She tries to get John's attention in bed. John ignores his beautiful 22 year old wife. Idiot. 7:28 a.m. - John leaves Charlotte in bed and rushes out to work. 8:21 a.m. - Charlotte and Bob Harris make eye contact on the elevator. First Contact. 11:00 a.m. - Charlotte walks around Shinjuku - perhaps the Pachinko parlors. Day 3 -- 9:17 p.m. - John and Charlotte are in lounge. She sees Bob in the N.Y. bar after his photo shoot. He is in a tuxedo with make up. He looks very dashing. She sends over mints or something. Day 4 -- 12:37 a.m. -- Charlotte can't sleep and goes back to the N.Y. bar. She talks with Bob Harris, who has also returned, for the first time. 9:27 a.m. -- Charlotte and John meet Kelly. John tells Kelly their here for a week and he's going to Fukazawa. 11:44 a.m. -- Charlotte sees Kelly's interview and tries Ikebana. Day 5 -- Charlotte gets on subway goes to shrine |
