| This map shows an overview of Houlton,
Maine. The next to the last exit on I-95 North, Exit 2?, is onto North Rd.
(Route 1). At this point I-95 has actually changed direction and is going
east to west. On this map north is top and west is on the left.
I take this exit of I-95 and then travel on Route 1North
for about 45 minutes to get to Presque Isle, Maine.
At this exit there is an Irving Mainway,
McDonalds, Burger King, Chinese restaurant and Rite-Aid pharmacy at or
near the red dots.
A Maine Tourism facility, Wal-Mart, and
Shop'n Save Supermarket (Whoopie Snacks!) at or near the blue dots.
At the green dot is an Irving Mainway
truck stop with a diner.
Route 2, Military Rd., is the last exit from I-95 before
Canada. You can see the Customs buildings and border from the overpass.
Houlton International Airport does not have any part 139 flights that I am
aware of and the two closest airports in the states with those would be
Presque Isle and Bangor.

A comment from a
visitor to my site stated,
"Your map of Houlton shows only the most mundane aspects of
the
community. It doesn't mention the picturesque downtown Market Square that is
on the National Historic Register, as well as the number of lovely
churches."
You're correct.
This is because this map reflects those places I visit in Houlton while
heading to Presque Isle, Maine. Yes I may miss the "pot o' gold" located
behind the Port o'potty. This is not intentional. It happens when you drive
hundreds of miles towards a specific destination. When I head up to Presque
Isle in the Winter of 2003-2004 I may check out the picturesque downtown Market
Square. I must have missed that or it has changed since January 2002. I
drove through downtown and around Houlton and
here are some of my pictures
from that visit. Thanks for your visit and comments. |
