Bangor,
Maine
Heading from home to
northern Maine
|
|
| Bangor, Maine provides a great place to stop for the night or
for a rest when traveling to and from Presque Isle. There are some nice
budget motels in the area near the airport. There are regular hotels
(Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn, Courtyard) in this area too. There is the
Airport mall for shopping, food stores, fast food and restaurants. The
area by the Bangor Mall provides all that and then some. The four times I
headed too Aroostook County I stayed in Bangor. This way I did not have to
drive straight through. My leaving time to Bangor did not allow for a
fourteen hour drive. Returning home I will drive from Presque Isle to home
without an overnight stop. |

The
Country Inn at the Mall
936
Stillwater Ave.
Exit 187 (formerly
49) off interstate I-95
Bangor, ME 04401
(official
site)
The Country Inn at the Mall is a gem of a
hotel by the Maine Mall in Bangor, Maine. This is a great deal. Why did it
take so long for me to stop in and ask about their rate and amenities? The
rates are great!
I was treated to a very clean, comfortable,
large room with full cable television and free wireless internet access.
Complimentary continental breakfast. The big bathroom has a large counter
next to the sink. A separate vanity is next to the bathroom and
closet. Table and chairs for dining. Soft comfortable chair for relaxing
while watching television. Nice bed and comfy pillows.
A nice Chinese restaurant is a few steps
away next door. Many other restaurants, food stops, the Mall and a Multiplex
cinema are a moments drive across the street.

The
Country Inn at the Mall, Bangor

I had actually checked into and paid for
another hotel that offered far less than this hotel for $15 less. After
driving by The Country Inn at the Mall and wanting a better selection of
television and other amenities I stopped in and asked what they offered and
for how much. I then checked in here and didn't go back to the other hotel. |

As you can see I really like staying at this hotel. That
was until I found out about the Country Inn at the Mall. The Motel 6 is
still good, but for an extended stay or even one night try the Country
Inn. |

February 3, 2002 - 8:20 a.m.
|
| A very nice motel
with exterior corridors. The first floor rooms are very convenient to your
car. Easy access for unloading luggage. The second floor requires a few
trips to the trunk for me. A good walk with full hands, opening doors to
get to the stairs, etc. This is big when staying here for one night. I
request first floor rooms.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
The rates were dirt cheep. Free coffee in the lobby in the morning. There
is a limited cable television selection. This is just as good as the Econo
Lodge if not better.

Room 133 - February 3, 2002
|
 |

When I checked in well after midnight on February 3,
2002 I was given this room, 269. With both hands full of luggage I trekked
up to the door. I unlocked the door and pushed it open only to have the
door stop moving after an inch or two because the safety latch was
set. Imagine my shock and surprise. I immediately thought the room was
occupied. I went to the wrong room and by chance it had the same
key. After a few moments I realized the room was vacant. Apparently
the door latched itself when closed real hard by the last person to close
it. I went back to the lobby and got room 133. This is funny now that I
look back on it. |

While I stayed here only once I like to mention the Econo

motel and it was my first overnight in Maine.

The Econo Lodge Bangor is the second hotel in Maine that I've
seen with this interesting feature. You need to insert your room key into
this in order to operate the heater or air conditioning. This is a brilliant
idea because it prevents the heater from being left on all day when the
room is vacant. When you leave the room you take the key with you while
this is in the off position. The hotel must easily save
thousands
of dollars a year with this feature. |
